Favorite law school memory

My favorite law school memory is competing with Anne Wilson and Lauren Cyphers in a moot court competition in New York City. Not only was our preparation eventful, but I was able to visit New York City for the first time. We were fortunate to have Prof. Van Nostrand as our experienced tour guide and even viewed an off-broadway production of The Office. I will never forget my trip to New York City with this group!

Inspiration

My late advisor, professor, and boss, John David Smith, inspired me to go to law school. Prior to John David, law school was never on my radar and certainly did not appear to be a realistic opportunity. I didn’t have self-confidence and did not believe that I could accomplish something like law school.

When I learned that I was accepted at WVU Law, John David jumped up and down with joy and gave me a huge hug. John David was more excited for me than anyone I knew. Just a couple of months later, John David unexpectedly passed away. I wish more than anything that John David could be here to see me graduate. I wouldn’t be here if he didn’t invest in me.

Special thanks

While I want to thank my wife, Hannah, family, friends, and amazing professors, I would like to thank God above all else. He has provided for me mentally, spiritually, financially, and physically throughout these three tiring years.

Each time I wanted to give up, He reminded me that He provides.

Each time I missed my wife who was over three hours away, He reminded me that I needed Him more.

Each time I worried over student loans, He reminded me to pray.

Each time I lacked confidence in myself, He reminded me that my confidence should be in Him.

Each time I failed, He picked me up.

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
