Favorite law school memory

In May 2018, I went on the study abroad trip to Guanajuato in Mexico. Guanajuato is a beautiful city, and I really enjoyed traveling there. Barrister's in 2019 was probably my favorite social event that I went to while I was in law school. I also really liked being in the Immigration Clinic this year. In October, we were able to go to the Capitol in Washington, D.C. and talk to staff members for West Virginia's representatives in Congress about immigration issues. It was a worthwhile experience, and I am glad that I was able to be a part of it.

Inspiration

My dad is a lawyer, and has been a solo practitioner since 1995. Even though he runs his own business, he has always been super involved in both mine and my sister's lives. I ran cross country and track in high school, and he made time to make it to almost every single one of my meets. I've always admired him for working hard and being so supportive of us.

I worked in my dad's office over the summers in high school and college, but I never actually considered going to law school until the summer before my Junior year of college. My dad had a court appointed armed robbery case that ultimately went to trial. Honestly, it was pretty ridiculous that the case was tried at all, because there was NO clear cut evidence against the defendant. My dad was able to demonstrate that to the jury, and the defendant was found not guilty. I was so glad to see the legal system work in that case. I wanted to be able to help people the way that he did. The result of that case ultimately inspired me to go to law school.

Special thanks

I'd like to thank my family for always supporting me in everything that I've ever wanted to do. I also want to thank all of the friends that I have made throughout my time at WVU Law, especially Mackenzie Hardin. I absolutely would not have made it through law school without your friendship, kindness, and support. This is probably shocking to a lot of people, but I actually used to suffer from severe social anxiety before I started Law School. I had ZERO friends that I talked to before I went to WVU. But because I was forced to step out of my comfort zone (as everyone else was as well since, you know, we didn't know each other yet lol), I was able to meet so many wonderful people both in and out of the Law School and build relationships that will last me a lifetime. I'm now 100% confident in public speaking, and I'm able to talk to people without worry. I'm truly grateful for that.
