Although it is very important to stay on top of your studies, everyone needs a break sometime. This blog post will provide just a few options for things to do in the Morgantown area for when you need to blow off a little steam.
WVU Mountaineer Football
It seems like the entire town of Morgantown stops to observe Mountaineer football game days? you might as well, too! As WVU moved into the Big XII Conference in 2012, the competition has certainly “turnt up.” With lots of exciting games on the horizon, a few of the particularly interesting home games include: (current stats)
– #4 Oklahoma Sooners (Sept. 20),
– #7 Baylor (Oct. 18),
– #20 Kansas State (Nov. 20).
Rooting for the Mountaineers is like a rite of passage for attending WVU, so come enjoy some prime real estate at one of the many law school tailgates. Grab a a hot dog and a beverage before you head to Milan Puskar Stadium to cheer on the ol’ Gold and Blue!
Coopers Rock
Situated roughly 13 miles from Morgantown is Coopers Rock State Forest, which has a beautiful scenic overlook area and various hiking trails. Coopers Rock will close after the weather begins to turn, but right now is prime time for visiting this area with the changing of the leaves. There are many different hiking paths to take at this park, but my favorite is the path that leads to Ravens Rock. So grab your dog (or borrow one from a friend) and spend an afternoon exploring a gorgeous corner of West Virginia exploring Cooper Rock State Forest.
WVU Arts and Entertainment
Throughout the year, WVU Arts and Entertainment holds events, with some of this year’s acts including Rick Springfield (Sept. 19), Chance the Rapper (Oct. 26), and Iconapop (Oct. 17). Some of the other acts coming to WVU this year include Blue Man Group (Nov. 9), Melissa Etheridge (Nov. 12), Wanda Sykes (Jan. 16), and various plays and ballets, including Sister Act (Feb. 22), Anything Goes (March 1), and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast (April 26). For more information on all of the events brought to you by WVU Arts & Entertainment, Please visit http://www.events.wvu.edu/series.shtml
Other Options
A few other suggestions for things to do in Morgantown include painting pottery (or other crafty things) at the WOW Factory (located in Star City), take a walk on the Mon River Rail Trail, or check out a local band at 123 Pleasant Street (one of my favorite Morgantown activities). Team Trivia is offered at various restaurants/bars all week long in Morgantown, but my favorite place to play is at Gibbie’s Pub and Eatery on Thursday evenings.
There are also lots of cuisine options to try, with some of my favorites including Black Bear Burritos, Morgantown Brewing Company, Puglioni’s Italian Restaurant, Mountain State Brewing Company, Tailpipes Burgers and Shakes, and much more.
Of course, if you feel the need to get a little bigger city action, Pittsburgh is conveniently located just an hour and fifteen minutes away
