International Law Students Association Feasting for Knowledge

ILSA

By: Natalie Arvizu
Since its recognition as most improved chapter in 2011, the West Virginia University College of Law ILSA Chapter has continued to broaden its horizons. The Chapter has seen growth in membership and is looking forward to hosting events that will continue to expose students to international law and relations. The ILSA Chapter was recently visited by Professor Matthew J. Wilson of the University of Wyoming and Dr. Gayane Davidyan of Moscow State University—the championing university of the 2012 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The professors talked about careers in international law, and how students can better achieve their full potential as diverse professionals. ILSA also provides large-scale learning opportunities to its members. Over the summer of 2012, several ILSA Chapter members were able to participate in an amazing study abroad to the University of Guanajuato, Mexico. This year, the Chapter will be sending two representatives to International Law Week in New York City to sit in on international law focused lectures, discussions, and events. The ILSA Chapter will be hosting several international potlucks at the homes of professors dedicated to international law. These events provide an opportunity for students and professors to connect on topics and areas of interest while eating yummy international dishes. Aside from social events, the ILSA Chapter is also planning for the spring semester. The Chapter is planning a series of lectures delivered by law professors of the Universidad de Murcia in Spain. Thanks to Juan Arbelo, an international exchange student and member of the WVU ILSA Chapter, video teleconferences discussing the several fields of international law will be available the WVU College of Law. The Chapter will be giving honorary certificates of attendance will be given to student who attend all the lectures. The 2012-2013 WVU ILSA Chapter looks forward to promoting and expanding international culture and awareness in this small, but growing, West Virginia town.
