Lugar Trial Association Update

The Marlyn E. Lugar Trial Association is theWVU College of Law’s elite trial advocacy organization. Members of Lugar compete in mock trial competitions not only at the College of Law, but also around the country. In the Fall of 2011, two different teams competed in the ABA Labor and Employment Law Competition. One of the teams was sponsored by Steptoe & Johnson while the other team was sponsored by Lugar. The Steptoe team advanced to the semi-final round – the first team in school history to do so in that competition.

This Spring, Lugar is sending a trial team to the Gourley Competition in Pittsburgh and the American Association for Justice Competition in Washington, DC. Also this Spring, Lugar is holding its annual Lugar Cup Competition. Over 30 teams signed up to participate in the completion.

The Lugar Cup final is scheduled for Wednesday, February 22nd at 1:00 in the Lugar Courtroom. The final trial will be judged by Justice Stephanie Thacker, who was recently appointed by President Obama to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Everyone is welcome to attend the final trial and watch some of the best advocates at the College of Law.
