Michael K. Addo is an international lawyer with special expertise in international human rights law and human rights and international business policy.
Addo was a member the United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights (2011-2018) mandated with promoting the implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. In that role, he has prepared policy papers and thematic reports for the United Nations Human Rights Council and the General Assembly, as well as policy advice for governments, companies and advocacy groups. He also served as chairperson of the coordination Committee of the United Nations Special Procedure Mandate Holders (2015 to 2016).
He earned a bachelor of laws degree with honors at the University of Ghana and
a graduate diploma in legal practice at the Ghana Law School. He is a member of
the Ghana Bar. He holds a master of law and doctoral degrees from the University
of Essex in the United Kingdom as well as a diploma in international human rights
law from the International Institute of Human Rights at the University of Strasbourg,
France.
Since 2017, Addo has directed Notre Dame Law School’s London Law Program in the United Kingdom. He was previously at the University of Exeter in England, where he held various positions, including Associate Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Director of Access and Admissions.
