The Academic Excellence Center continues to work with students after their first year of law school by offering bar-focused writing courses, academic advising, and individual academic counseling.
LAW 791S: MULTISTATE PERFORMANCE TEST (MPT) WORKSHOP
This for-credit, writing intensive workshop is open to all upper-level students in the fall semester. The course provides in-depth training in legal reasoning for law school exams, the bar exam, and legal practice. Specifically, the professor encourages students to learn how to apply substantive law in the context of a Performance Test (one component of the bar exam). Students receive guidance and feedback on all written work from the professor about ways to improve their legal reasoning skills.
LAW 682: ESSAY WRITING 1 (PRACTICAL LEGAL WRITING 1)
The Academic Excellence Center provides a for-credit bar preparation course for all third-year students in the spring semester. The course consists of a series of lectures addressing the content of the bar exam, tips on how to study for the exam, tips on how to spot issues in essay questions, instruction about how to write essay responses or answer multiple-choice questions, and other important topics.
LAW 683: ESSAY WRITING 2 (PRACTICAL LEGAL WRITING 2)
Building upon the skills introduced in Practical Legal Writing I, students will be exposed to intensive and individualized feedback on their answers to numerous bar exam essays. Students will also be expected to meet with the professor regularly to discuss their individual test-taking strengths and weaknesses, to assure first-time success with the bar exam. Participation in the second course is by invitation only.
