Financial Aid – Deferments and Exit Counseling
Deferments
If you are currently in repayment or will be in repayment of a previous student loan you can defer those payments while you are enrolled at least half time. Deferment forms are available at the College of Law Financial Aid Office if your loan is a William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan. If your loan is not a Direct Loan you must contact your servicer for deferment forms. The WVU College of Law Registrar completes all deferment forms.
Info on Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
All students who wish to borrow through Federal Student Loan Programs are required to complete the entrance counseling process to ensure that student loan borrowers understand the responsibility and obligation they are assuming by borrowing student loans.
Students borrowing through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Student Loan program are encouraged to complete the counseling online at Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
Failure to complete the entrance counseling process will delay the disbursement of your student loans.
DIRECT LOAN EXIT COUNSELING
West Virginia University is required, by law, to provide exit counseling to borrowers of the Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Student Loan Programs shortly before the borrowing student graduates, withdraws, or otherwise ceases to attend school at least half time.
To satisfy your Direct Loan exit counseling requirement, you must complete the exit counseling session online. You will receive an e-mail from ECSI in either November or April depending on whether you graduate in the fall or spring. This e-mail will provide your username and PIN number with instructions on how to complete the exit counseling on the ECSI website.
If you do not complete exit counseling before departing WVU, a hold will be placed on all of your records at WVU, until the requirement is satisfied.
