Public Service – Clinical Law Program
The Clinical Law Program offers an opportunity to qualified third-year law students to represent clients under faculty supervision. The objective of the clinic is to expose students to all phases of lawyering, client interviewing, and counseling; advocacy in trial courts, before administrative tribunals and in appellate contexts; drafting of briefs and pleadings; negotiating; and other skills. Heavy emphasis is placed on the development of the lawyer role with particular attention to the Rules of Professional Responsibility.
During the fall semester, second-year students are permitted to sign up for a lottery drawing that will be held to determine who will be eligible to participate in the Clinical Law Program. Every student who signed up will be drawn and ranked in numerical order, but only the first twenty (20) names drawn will be guaranteed a chance to participate. If one of the first twenty students decides not to participate, then the next person in line (number 21) will move up on the list, and so on. The results of the lottery will be posted on the glass bulletin boards in the lobby.
